Help us empower women and children.

Help us empower women and children by supporting local women’s shelters in Collingwood and Midland.

Kevin and I are proud to be part of a company that is as community minded as Huronia.  So many of our staff are involved in charitable fundraising activities in the communities that we serve.  And corporately, we support a number of organizations through direct sponsorship, donations-in-kind and service assistance.

Close to both of our hearts is the need to empower women and children, by supporting local women’s shelters in Collingwood and Midland.

Each year,  My Friend’s House in Collingwood provides emergency shelter and counselling services to more than 600 women and their children, who look to the shelter to help them escape violence at home.  My Friend’s House also responds to over 1,500 crisis calls each year.

Despite being an essential service, My Friend’s House has to raise over $200,000 each year just to meet basic needs.   I ask you to join me in helping them reach this goal.

On July 9th, I am embarking on one of our most ambitious fundraising activities to date.  For the fourth year running, Huronia and the leadership team at 6 Hours of Gibraltar are working together to help My Friend’s House reach their core operating budget through this one-day mountain biking relay event.

Through the generous support of our Customers, friends and family, the 6 Hours of Gibraltar managed to raise 15,000.00 in our first year.  With a year under our belts, we grew the event – more teams, more corporate sponsorship and in year two, we presented My Friend’s House with a cheque for $58,792. Last year, we broke our record again, reaching over $104,000.  And this year, we’re looking to raise the bar even higher.  But we can’t raise $150,000 alone.

As Team Captain for the Huronia Rockets – I am personally asking you to make a donation to support us in our efforts to empower women and children in Southern Georgian Bay.  All donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt.  100 percent of your donation goes directly My Friend’s House.

On June 25th, Kevin will be “Walking a Mile in Her Shoes” as part of the Midland Y’s Men's to raise money for Midland’s own Women’s shelter, Huronia Transition Homes.  If you want to watch Kevin walk in high heels, you will need to sponsor him!  Just select “walk a mile” on the right hand side of  the box that says “general” and type Kevin Leonard’s name under “message for Huronia Transition Homes”. All donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt.

Kevin and I want to thank you in advance for your generosity.
