The vision of a former police officer, Huronia Alarms began in 1972. Don Bryant enjoyed early success based on two principals — exemplary customer service and superior product knowledge and quality.
After 25 years of steady growth, the company took a substantial leap forward when the Thorburn Family became majority shareholders in 1993. Rob Thorburn Sr. became the President of the company.Huronia Alarms expanded again in 1998 with the acquisition of Bellalarms Systems of Collingwood. Under the operational leadership of Rob Thorburn Jr., the new Collingwood branch extended Huronia's reach and increasing list of products and services.
![]() A year later, Huronia purchased Walker Electric’s Alliance Security business. Leveraging the talent of the Midland business, George Walker joined Huronia as the Service and Installation Manager.
2005 was a busy year for Huronia Alarms. Rob Thorburn Sr. retired but remained active as Chairman. Kevin Leonard stepped up as the new President & CEO and Rob Thorburn Jr. became Executive Vice-president. Rick Collins began as head of the Fire Safety Division.
The new Audio-Video division launched in 2006 with the addition of Glenn Porter. The acquisitions continued with the purchase of Octagon Automation and Williams Security in Collingwood. Dan Williams joined the Huronia Team.After being with Huronia for a year, Mary-Lyn Newbigging became Vice-President of Finance in 2008. In 2009, Cam Posch would launch his career with Huronia Alarms as an Account Representative for the Audio-Video sales force.
Huronia embarked on an ambitious marketing and rebranding program in 2008.
The transformation to a refreshed and reinvented Huronia Alarms would coincide with a move to a new office location at 284 Pretty River Parkway in Collingwood. The flagship location features a state-of-the-art audio demo room and showroom to better serve Huronia clients and serve as the foundation for future growth and success. Huronia Alarms has grown from its humble beginnings in 1972 but our core values remain the same — exemplary customer service and superior product knowledge and quality.
